What it is
My company offers four different health plans. Trying to predict which plann is best for me during open enrollment is difficult as the built-in rough estimator offered by my company doesn’t take actual health costs or HSA tax savings into account.
So I wrote this comparison tool. It takes in a list of health plans defined as a YAML configuration file. You can then enter in your specific estimated health costs by category and relevant details like:
- Your age (to take catch-up contributions into account)
- Your anticipated FSA/HSA contributions
- Your marginal combined tax rates
It then simulates your anticipated expenses across all available health plans over different spending levels and helps you find which plan will likely save you the most money. Because my company’s offerings are pulled away into a configuration file, anyone can fork this project and put their own health plan configuration in and it should “just work.”
